usb fm radio repair

This set had visited me in March 2025 with power failure problems, about which I have already written an article, which is in queue. I had changed the Transformer and battery and did other service work then. It visited me again in October, 2025 with the same complaint; i.e., dead! I opened and cleaned the inside and checked what went wrong? The mains cord was found intermittent, the primary of transformer was found open and the speaker was open too!

So, another massive damage once again due to power surge. One tank capacitor had burnt mark on the ground leg. Let us have a look at some pictures, though I have covered many in my previous article:

I replaced the cord wire, transformer and speaker with new ones from my stock and did spot welding on the battery with a charge control PCB fixed on it as the voltage from the TX was slightly more and I did not want over charging to take place.

Also changed all Elec. Caps! Let us have a look at the work done on the battery:

The set was subjected to thorough testing once again on all modes for several hours before fixing the back cover and transferring it to ‘delivery room’ (presently the sit out room in my house!).

The set kindly obliged to give a pose for a parting look, perhaps as a gesture of gratitude, and here it is:

Mission accomplished with vigor and enthusiasm yet another time, drawing satisfaction to the bag!

    Good Job! Sir,
Sometimes I wonder whether or not to charge for a repeat service, because only we know the difference between the cost of a new unit and the repair expenses.

I always give caution to the customer and accept the work. But many are the type who do not want to part with it, though a new piece is available in the market for half the price! Many thanks, dear Yogesh Bai!

After seeing the massive damage done to this radio due to another power surge, I am glad that they are very rare in my country. Although recently the lightning strikes in my country were very heavy and destructive. The Netherlands experienced exceptional and destructive thunderstorms in late June 2026, recording over 300,000 lightning discharges within 24 hours, fires sparked by strikes, and major transit disruptions. All likely caused by global weather changes from heating up oceans that create stronger cyclones.

I may understand that the transformer could have given in to the intolarable voltage surges. I may understand because most of the small radio transformers are directly linked to the mains without any form of protection, leaving them vulerable. But cheap power codes may also put transformers in trouble with their unstable voltage supply.
