Fitting Formenty Compo Board In PANASONIC LED TV Model TH-32MS5500DX 

This TV was brought to me by a new customer, as per recommendation from the grocery shop situated in front of my house. In fact, he has been instrumental in getting me sets from many.

Since the customer’s relative knew something about electronics as he was in the marketing and sales field abroad, and further the cable operators also confirmed, I was informed that the TV got hit in lightning and only power on LED was found lit and no functions worked. Presumably, the uController would have got hit for sure. I opened the TV and cleaned the inside, which did not have much dust as it was only just two years old. The compo board was found fixed in the back cover, making it a bit difficult to detach the LVDS cable and backlight connector. Managed to detach these two without causing a strain or damage. Then disconnected the speaker wire from the board and removed the only one screw that was holding it. Let us have a look at it:

The board had an ‘L’ shape, with the sensor, on/off, LAN and WIFI connection in the extension. Let us have a look of the board:

On inspection, the power supply was showing correct output marked on the PCB; 12V & 28V. The slave voltage regulators such as the 1.8V, 3.3V etc. were all showing dead short.

So, I removed the heat sink of the IC and studied theextent of damage. I found that the R2R resistor series that input the  HDMI to the uController were all open:

Since the Main IC got hit and many other components got burned, there was no use of trying to restore the board and I sent SOS calls to my techie-friends in various groups, which reached almost all parts of India. When the regular suppliers did not have this board, which is almost new to the market, one of my techie friends who happened to be away from station, informed me that he might perhaps have the board and he could confirm it only after he returns the next day. I kept the hunting on and ordered for an interface T-con board for this BOE panel looking at its number (HV320WHB-F56). I am also giving a snap of the Main Board number for those who might require it:

The interface board was ordered to connect U11 Board to this panel and checkup whether that was working. The backlight was already tested and found to be ok. Though the interface board reached me next day, since my techie friend confirmed having the same type of board by then, I discarded the attempt of U11 board connection and took the TV to his shop, which was almost 30KMs away. The excitement filled drive was damn good and the waiting in front of his shop, sitting on the stair case, as he was away for lunch, was also thrilling:

He attended to my TV as soon as he returned, though there were a few other techies waiting. The boards were found matching with each other to every respect. He connected it, switched on and applied video, which brought crystal clear video on the screen, adding more thrill to my excitement! After testing the TV for some time, the back cover was fixed and further tested for a few more minutes. Let us have a look at the final result to show proof:

TV was delivered to the customer next day, after testing it for many hours, who was very, very happy! Can we then say, mission accomplished and satisfaction got added? (By the way, the board was that of Formenty and it was available only without its remote. But the Panasonic Remote worked very well with this board confirming that both were exactly same, to give a big relief to both of us!)

   Getting any required parts often still involves a lot of driving to other towns and cities. But luckily it again was well worth the effort!
   Maybe we still will experience future times in where we just ship a gps controlled drone on its way to do our driving.
