Unwanted Visitor Found In LG 43 Inch LED TV
The complaint of this LG 43″ Smart LED TV was no power. Once the TV cover was opened, I could see three boards; the main board, power board and the T-con board. Look at the photos below:
The main fuse was open circuit. I need to remove the power board and check for shorted components.
When I flipped the power board I was terrified for a while because I did not expect to see such a big gecko (unwanted visitor)! This is the reason why the main fuse was blown.
I need to clean the affected area with solution. After that I used hair dryer to blow the area to make it dry.
I began to check on the components in the primary power side. The main power FET was shorted but the power IC did not have any shorted reading.
I replaced the power FET and connect a light bulb to test the power supply.
The bulb went dimmed and this was a good sign that I can put in a replacement fuse and powered it up. I was happy when I saw the TV came back alive!
Conclusion- Troubleshooting and repairing TV power section was not tough if you know what you are doing. You must equipped with some knowledge in order to fix power supplies successfully. Good repair! One doubt: Did you block the vent through which this found its entry? Else, you can expect it back soon! If its a female, a 'desperate' male will enter tracking it for sure! (LOL)

You cleaned the affected area with solution. What used cleaning product is that exactly? Is that some sort of diluted bleach or sodium hypochlorite?

We all know these reptiles come in for warmth being generated by tv,and blocking the vent I guess it would increase temperature in tv which is not good for the appliance.ln my country we hardly experience such thing for we have high temperature,So no gecko inside tv for warmth.

Gotta love these stories. It’s when you least expect it when it happens to you. It happened only twice to me in my 50 years of working on TV’s mostly.

I just hate unwanted visitors in such devices. Last time I had unwanted visitors on a gate control board and the damage was severe

Yes, I have never seen him responding! That is very unfortunate. May be, Jestine Yong can take it up with him! We learn a lot more through such interactions.
