LG Fully Automatic Washing Machine Repaired
Early in the morning I am having breakfast at that time my wife called me she told me I heard loud bang noise with burning smell from our washing machine. I just rushed towards washing machine and turned off the switch & removed the power plug from the mains socket.
I checked power cord it looks intact there is no any burn marks or physical damage. So I came to know that something is wrong inside the washing machine, so first I finished my breakfast because I knew this will take at least an half an hour to diagnose the faulty location.
After finishing my breakfast & I came on job….. I removed back top panel to inspect Power cord area visually there is no any physical damage /Burnout. I checked continuity of the power cord seems ok.
So I opened the back cover of the machine to check in side wiring on startup condenser area everything seems ok.
From outside machine looks neat and clean but from inside I found rust everywhere. & looks like metal body is near to end of the life……
Right now my concern is to start the machine because my breakfast is already over but what about lunch and dinner????………..once again I concentrated on the main problem.
And this time I have removed full top cover for tracing the Cable and further inspection.
Here I found the Culprit beneath the top cover…………wire from fuse is burnt and broken
I removed fuse for testing…. as soon as I opened the fuse cover I found fuse clips are broken because of degraded and oxidation on it .i checked the fuse using multimeter I found fuse is intact. So i re soldered the clips eliminating burnt wire and putting new wire from fuse to the control circuit on front panel.
Covered the solder wire using heat shrink tube and PVC insulating tape above it for extra protection.
Now inserted the fuse in the holder for testing and turned ON the Machine …………………..
And machine starts form the process where it was stopped working.
Because of programmed control board. This way I concluded the repair for peaceful lunch and dinner.

Your wife must be pleased that you still like her cooking that much after all these years!
Not even exploding appliances can pull you away.
This might be more a case of friction wear (back and forth motion of the machine wearing away the insulation of one or more wires which caused a short) but it doesn't explain the loud BANG she heard. I would imagine she would have heard sparking. If I heard a bang then I would naturally assume that one of the major components (capacitors or FET) failed catastrophically.

Tayo, How can i explain Love & fear here.......Ha ha ha....
you are right BANG noise is due to Sparking only because Motor current consumption is around 10 to 15 amp.

Glad that you were able to fix the often needed LG Washing machine and hope that the rust on the metal body won't shorten its lifespan in any way. And bon appétit at lunch and dinner! (lol).

I do not know how much this companies are making money by providing inferior material like this. They should use "Galvanized metal" where equipment like AC/Washing machine /Refrigerator is comes in contact with water or high humid area

Usually as Technician we recomend customers to all bring their appliance for routine maintenance yet we neglect own very own appliance, first and foremost this could have been avoided by scheduling routine service on you appliance and you would have a peaceful breakfast.
I am impressed how you quickly managed to solve this problem otherwise a new chorus was going to start- demanding the washing machine to come back to life.

I stopped purchasing LG appliances as they are built to last just past the warranty. I've rebuilt these devices several times and when they go out a second or third time, it's the scrap yard for them. Most of the times the circuit boards aren't even worth salvaging either.
I'm glad you got yours's running again, but what was the reason for so much corrosion and can that be fixed?
