Futile Attempts To Resolve Double Image In Videocon LED TV V3218 Resulted In Panel Replacement
This TV belonged to my colleague working in the hospital and was referred to me for a possible rectification of the problem that you can see in the above image (Screenshot of the video sent by him). As most of us all know, this means there are a few shorts within the panel, which could be resolved by manipulation of data tracks on the scalar or T-con Board.
After opening the TV and subjecting it to a thorough cleaning, I checked the voltages on the scalar board and found these to be normal.
On consultation with my techie friends, I tried cutting the LC1 and LC2 tracks, by removing two resistors.
But it did not resolve the issue. The next suggestion was to give VGL and VGH voltages directly to these two points by a jumper wire. I followed that too and even inverted these two without any change in the situation.
After such very time consuming futile attempts, I referred this case to my techie friend who stays around 20 KM away from my home, as he was an expert in panel bonding, repair and replacement. He too tried his best to rectify the problem by bypassing a few tracks on the main cof that goes to the panel, but in vain. Following was the net result. Please observe the top and bottom blank gaps.
Ultimately, a change of panel was the only option. After seeking approval from the customer, I agreed for this and my friend tried fitting a new LG 32” panel, but found that it was not seating properly on the frame. So, he picked up another batch of LG Panels next day from the wholesale shop. The panel was found fitting well. Why is this difference?
According to him, the panel sizes may vary slightly as these are coming from different sources. Since the panel is very fragile, we cannot take the risk of a tight fit, as the edges might break.
Here is the screenshot of the short video sent to me by the customer, as per my request. (I was not there when the TV was taken delivery by the customer directly, from my friend’s shop)
As the satisfaction did not have any reason for not jumping into the bag, it did so happily! (LOL)

Another successful repair, and just no product going into landfill. Hats off. I always enjoy reading your maintenance reports. By the way, what the word cof means?

Chip on film, a connector mostly with a chip on it for interacting with the panel for data transfer.
