wireless headphones repair

These headphones belonged to my relative staying in Chennai, about 600KMs away from my home town. He called me up one day to enquire whether I could fix his costly headphones as it did not switch off and the battery was getting drained due to that. He had taken the HP to the company service center for a change of its sponge ear pads and get this complaint also resolved. But the company personnel did only the replacement of the sponge and said that the HP cannot be opened and he has to go for a replacement, upon which a maximum of 10 – 15% discount was offered. Well, then he thought of me and hoped that I could manage to do some Midas touch. I told him to spray WD40 carefully on the switch and slide it back and forth a few times and see whether the dirt got cleared. But nothing worked, upon which I asked him to courier it to me. I received the parcel on the third day.

After removing the sponge cover inside the unit which housed the switch, I could easily locate the three screws which held the top cover. Then opened it to see what was wrong. I found the knob cracked on its hold:

Since the battery was almost dead, I put it for charging fully, before doing anything further. After the battery got charged, when I switched on, the HP was working and I played a couple of songs from my Laptop and found that the quality of the output was damn good. I could locate the broken piece of the knob inside and therefore, I applied Fevibond followed by a drop of Superglue and allowed it to get properly bonded. Then tightened the bond with a small piece of wire and again applied glue. Then fixed the knob back in its place and closed the cover without putting the screws. When I tried the switch, it was working very well. Then fixed the screws from behind and fixed the dust cover too inside. Then tested the HP for several hours and it worked very well. The switch also operated very well. After gaining enough confidence on its function, packed it properly and sent it through Speed post as the Post Office was just in front of my house.

My relative got it on the third day and sent me a confirmation that it was working very well. He was so nice to have put a picture with a narration of my work in our family group, which fetched many laurels. One of my relatives living in US sent a message that he would be bringing a lot of such non-working costly gadgets for a possible restoration. I declined saying that I am already overcrowded with a lot and lot of them and do not want to collect some more!

Anyhow, the satisfaction had enough reasons to gain entry into the collection bag and I watched it delightedly! (LOL) (Advance bail: I forgot to take a picture of the whole unit and that’s why you will find an image which I downloaded from website.)

After reading about another well carried out repair, this however gives the HP service center a bad image when they apparently do not even bother to try fix such minor defects. HP headphone defects that are likely frequently caused by the weak plastic/abs construction that holds the on/off switch in place. And without qualified repair engineers and headphone constructions that now all suffer from the same weak flaws this means bad business!

Albert, I seen Many of the good Brands, they give on site service on card level replacement only when equipment is under warranty ,they are not interested in component level repair afterwords when warranty period is over. May be Because of Market trends where customer is not ready to wait for longer time & other hand overheads expenses to the companies like logistic, traveling of technician & time spent.

I am glad you were able to help your relative. Shameful that these companies do not carry out services for their products. Have a blessed day

Many companies divert customers to new purchases! Sales tactics! Recently I had to go for a new Pressure Cooker as the manufacturer stopped making gaskets! Instead they offered a new Pressure Cooker at half the price in exchange! Dirty tricks are being played by even reputed manufacturers. What to do!

Many thanks for your comments, dear friend!

Here in Australia company's use to have to keep spare parts for 10 years. Now it's.

When a consumer buys a product, the manufacturer or importer must provide spare parts and repair facilities for a reasonable time after purchase. This applies even if the consumer did not buy the goods directly from the manufacturer or importer.

This guarantee does not apply if the consumer is told at the time of purchase that repair facilities and spare parts will not be available after a certain time.
