Philips AQUATOUCH AT620 Shaver Repair
Received Philips Aquatouch AT620 shaver not turning ON.
Connected the Device on Power adaptor it shows charging indicator but when pressing on off switch it does not show any sign of working. For further inspection I disassembled the device.
Removed top blade Unit & opened two screws to open the handle.
Took out the Charging Circuit for Testing. Found DC Motor 180FF-2840P1.
Used two 800mAh 2.4v Ni-MH Batteries
Connected the circuit again on Power & pressed On /Off switch but no response.
Checked On/Off switch using Multimeter on Beep mode, indicates good working switch.
Checked voltage of adaptor showing approx. 15v seems OK.
On power Adaptor clearly mentioned 15v /5.4W
Now checked Battery Output voltages it shows 2.7v that is also Ok.
Traces circuit for any Leakey components but everything seems ok. Applied direct 3v to motor it is working fine.
There is No any extra activity like speed control is involved so I assume this circuit is only for Battery charging. Googled some videos to find some solution. Because voltages up to on/off switch are within the range.
I tried some tricks I got from YouTube to the test.
In power ON condition I shorted two Points Battery –ve point using Tweezer.
I found green LED indicator turned to orange & motor start spinning.
It stopped when the tweezer was removed. I pressed on /Off switch but still no result. It is not working through ON /Off switch.
In some other video I found the guy is shorting these capacitors (As Marked in the following photo) using tweezer when unit is powered On. I followed the trick & it works now device working properly.
tested the device every few hours and found it to be working fine. So, after servicing the blade unit, I reassembled the unit.
& device is ready for pick up.

Philips shavers won't work if you do not discharge the battery fully before taking it out, and it is mentioned in their manuals. You should run the shaver until the battery discharges completely and then remove it. Then this sort of problem would not arise. Many thanks for sharing!

I would have thought all capacitors would discharge if the supply was removed long enough and the capacitors that you manually discharged would be at the same state. I would have liked yo remove the battery pack overnight and reconnect and see if that would have restored the correct functionality. Never-the-less well done in effecting a repair.

Sadly matching service manuals or schematics for these Philips shavers are hardly available anywhere which makes repairing them very difficult.
A few older Philips shavers weren't even fixable anymore because of deteriorating plastic housings and other unexpected aging problems.
My newest Philips Series 5000 Shaver BT5515 15V DC/5.4W with HQ8505 adapter however looks like a very decently made and designed shaver. And it is a pleasure to use it when shaving and also for trimming my beard.
On 27 december this year my 3 year warranty time sadly expires. But I am hoping that it keeps serving me well for a long time after that. Oddly the instruction guide doesn't mention anything useful about the electronics or what chargeable battery is used in the device at allwhich is a shame!

i had exactly the same device in the shop a while ago and I watched some videos about it. I repaired it the way it was done in the video but later on it came back to the shop not working again so I had no option but to refund the guy...thanks for sharing and have a blessed day

Sadly no success with mine. But I’m still curious as to why it turns on when shorting? Mine starts just fine if I short it; and there’s several points that actually do it. But, it lights the orange led. The on/off switch works to stop the device when it starts by shorting, but, it won’t work to turn it on. It just “tries” to. When I click, the motor try to start for a second, but, that’s all.
It suck to throw a device that it’s good, just for some minor thing.
