This radio I repaired last year for Battery Problem Same radio received back for low distorted sound problem.

On removing top netting cover I found Speaker cone ring is degraded & torn. When I removed the mesh cover, all the debris from the damaged speaker cone fell onto my table. I immediately cleaned it all up, and in the process, I completely forgot to take the picture.

anyway for confirmation about the culprit for low sound I disassembled the radio. After disassembled the radio I connected 4Ω speaker for testing & I got good loud audio Sound, quality is not so good because Original is woofer & for testing I connected horn speaker (Mostly used in electronic doorbell). So it is confirmed circuit is Ok & problem is with speaker.

This is the condition of the speaker, Ring foam had deteriorated and turned into dust particles.

So now it is time to order New so I called up our local parts supplier, I decided not to order it online because it’s not a commonly used part, and my previous experiences with online shopping haven’t been good; there are always problems with the part size. I sent photos to several parts suppliers, but none of them had it in stock. They all said that these parts tend to deteriorate from the cone ring side if kept in stock for too long.

So I put the repair work aside because I was planning to go to the market in the next few days, hoping to find what I needed there. I had to get some parts and have a Bluetooth speaker re-coned, as the replacement speakers were unavailable.

A few days ago, I saw a small shop in the market that repairs speakers, and they told me they could replace speaker cones, which is what I needed for the repair of one of my Bluetooth speakers. When I saw him repairing that Bluetooth speaker, I gained confidence that I could do it too. I bought some 1.5-inch woofer cones from them at the time, unfortunately I forgot to take my 1.5-inch woofer with me. Otherwise, I would have had it repaired right then and there. This are new cones for 1.5 inch woofer I purchased.

Now I got new cones for the speaker. Now I prepared the required tools  scissors & Rubber glue. Hear I used Fevibond well known brand in india.

First I cut the cone paper from inside diameter to match the Ring side.

Then applied rubber glue on edges of the speaker metal chasis ,on cone paper edge  & outside edge of dust cap on the woofer.

After five minutes setdown of adhesive I fixed Ring over the woofer frame by pusing down to the Coil dust cap.

First time I tried ….This is the result.

I kept the speaker as it is for 1 hour to set properly.

Then I connected to the circuit for the testing, and it sound good…..now time to reassamble the unit.

For speaker installation in the frame adhesive was applied to the edges of the speaker frame and the passive radiator ring, where the speaker will be fitted.

speaker fix

No screws were used because the speaker was glued onto a rubber ring ( Passive Radiator).

Soldered speaker wires.

speaker wires

This speaker wire passes through the part that covers the radiator and speaker.

Then fitted the cover on its place.

Fixing a speaker or speakercone I never did, although I know that replacement cone sets exist. Good that you were able to fix the defect speaker sounding like a new one!
Maybe you next time also could protect the speaker from new over-current damage by using a cheap Resettable Fuse also called PTC's in series with one of the speaker wires.

      Thanks!for providing Links, Albert
I've never heard of resettable fuses for speakers; we'll have to see if they make any difference to the sound quality. I've mostly seen them used in CCTV power supplies.

I remember to have done replacement of speaker coils, spider and coils for larger sizes. Good that your hunting eyes spotted what you wanted and you could solve the problem amiably! Many thanks for sharing such rare experiences in our field!

With the availability of cones and coils, I will also give speaker repair a try, I have lots of bad ones. Whats best for speaker circuits, capacitors or resistors. This time round there is a missing special name for you in a certain comment, senior Yogesh !

The kind of speaker you repaired is ideally designed for these small powerful radios. These particular radios are easily identified by their amazingly wonderful sound output from the tiny and relatively heavy speakers. As they let out a clear loud sound in every corner of a room, you can feel the small speaker energetically thumbing through your hand as you hold the radio when listening to, even USB. Only that before long nothing comes out, the radio goes silent, meaning one thing or another has given in to an overwhelming electronic load. This small wonderful radios have never failed to please the young generation sense of attraction given that some have lovely colors with pleasant shapes, two speakers, torch, fancy blinking LED lights and a rechargeable battery. Six years ago I used to mostly replace the smd sound amplifier that was overworked and killed by the teenage customers for not giving the radios a rest, full-blast 24/7 ! Infact I thought as I began to read the article, you would replace some IC.

    Muykit,
Yes, this is indeed a powerful radio. This type of radio rarely experiences circuit malfunctions. Most often, the problems are found in the speaker, charging port, battery, and switches.
