USB Hub Not Working
Received USB HUB stating problem was not detecting any USB device.
Connected the unit on my PC for testing & found it is not detecting any USB pendrive but when we connect mobile it starts charging, indicates power from the device is OK but data path is not working.
So opened the unit for inspection.
First checked USB cable continuity end to end. Found OK,
device looks dusty hence cleaned it properly.
Checked Resistors & capacitors, all seems ok. Resistor used in this device by Marking on the PCB, R1=681 / 680Ω, R2=103/10KΩ, R3=473/47KΩ & R4=104 /100KΩ. Checked PCB for dry solder but everything looks OK still I retouched USB ports. Because this unit used Double layer PCB. This unit controlled by GL850G USB 2.0 Hub Controller IC.
When cleaning with the brush I Found one resistor marked R3=473/47K is fell down, maybe it has poor solder contacts.
Re soldered the resistor on its place.
While handling multilayer PCB be careful for traces, it gets ripped-off or burnt-out on overheat of soldering Iron.
again cleaned everything using IPA, re assembled everything & connected the unit on my PC for testing & found PC Detect my HP USB Pendrive.
Now unit is ready for pickup.

While I was reading itself, I knew that it could only be you and it indeed was! Very glad to see an article from you after a long time! Yes, handling double sided PCB with SMD components is really a problem! Many thanks for sharing!

Thank you! Sir
Multi layer PCB with through hole components removal is really headache.

Thanks for sharing this now good cleaned and as new working fixed usb hub Yogesh.
Fixing usb hubs and new usb cables probably will get more complex in the near future because of the new QC and PD usb-C programmable power protocols that are introduced. With Fast universal charging & full feature USB-C ports that speed up the charging process in new USB-C devices.

Right! Albert,
Next-Generation USB PD 3.1 Extended Power Range increases maximum power from 100W to 240W (48V at 5A). To safely deliver 240W, specialized "EPR cables" and connectors are required that support 5A current and communicate with the charger to handle the higher voltage.
