Why Resistor Burn Again?

Sometimes when you found a bad resistor you really need to check where the resistor is connected to. The resistor can open by itself after few years of service or it can be due to bad corresponding components. If the newly replaced resistor gets hot then you should check the components along that resistor line.

Shorted capacitor, leaky transistor, diode and IC could cause the resistor to gets hot and burn again after turning the set on for sometime. It could also be due to other component like flyback transformer (if you are in CRT Monitor/TV repair) and etc.

In certain cases, the problem is not in the bad corresponding components in fact it was due to design problem. If you found a bad resistor say 1/4 watt had an open circuit you can always replace it with a 1/2 watt or even 1 watt resistor and the new replacement resistor will surely last longer.

i am facing a problem similar to this one..I put a new two 1000 ohm resistors and the next week, they became open. I am still working on finding out the problem with this machine before I put new ones in again.

Hello, sorry if this isn't the right place to ask but I have a question about a CRT TV, the problem is that it looks like it got wet but I don't know where all that liquid came from?

Please notice all the stuck dust (even around the Sanyo IC) I cleaned the rest of the dust.

Im wondering because it looks like a lot of liquid got inside and I don't know if the flyback or a capacitor(s) could leak like all that.

Do you believe I am correct to diagnose an external source for the liquid?

I believe the repair is too risky because the flyback may be shot and changing the flyback is not worth it.

  Yes it could be from a spilled coffee or cola drinks. Try clean the area first before turning it on. Chances is 50/50 successful repair rate base on this kind of condition.

please give example in ohms, I don't understand watts,,, please, you mean e.g 100ohms u replace it with 50ohms
