No Disk Message in Parker DVD Player Repaired-Model DVK432
When you turned on the DVD Player PARKER Model DVK432, and inserted any CD (CD- ROM or CD-RW) or DVD (DVD-R or DVD-RW) of audio or video the display started to show the message LOAD, and at some seconds later you could see on the front display the following message: NO DISK. Therefore the DVD Player did not play any CD/DVD at all.
The DVD Player case was disarmed first of all.
The first step was to test the output voltages of the internal DC Power Supply.
As we can see the output voltages: +5v; +12v and -12v (this one not shown on the photos) were correct.
On the other hand, once that output voltages from the DC Power Supply were correct, the other step was to check the CD/DVD mechanism.
When the CD/DVD Mechanism was checked at simple sight, everything appeared to be fine, there were not any pinion gear with any teeth broken, so far so good, but when the impedance of the Spindle Motor was checked, there was an error shown by the Digital Multimeter. The value measured was different from a good working Spindle Motor.
The Spindle Motor was extracted (by means of two little screws with the help of a screwdriver) and substituted by a new unit. And when the DVD Player was put into function, what a surprise, any kind of CD/DVD could be played (music and video).
The message of NO DISK on the front display was not shown again, So DVD Player repaired.

Hi Humberto,
Thanks for sharing! What a nice article! By the way, what should be the resistance range of a good spindle motor?

Thank you for sharing this useful information,
but i have one question.
In the first photo (where you are checking the psu voltages)
i see that the motor spins. But you found that the fault was
the motor. How does it spin then?
Can you explain, please?
Humberto

Ok gcharal, the analys you have done is correct, but I really took those photos once the erquipment was mended, maybe they should not be placed at that part of the article, ok?. In my country, many PARKER of this model were sold, I have one, and the spindle motors failed a lot, mine worked for less than 4 months, and I had to replace it quickly.

Mr Humberto, what did you expect to see for impedance on your mulitmeter for the motor? What did you see instead?

By readind the impedance of the spidle motor, I can know if it's in perfect condition

Very good info....Lots of good tips here. I really enjoy reading this stuff.........keep it up....I am into repairing music equipment but am starting to branch out into other areas such as control boards for printing presses, etc...people ask me what do I repair....I tell them anything that either plugs into the wall or runs on a battery....now I find that I am getting more things to repair.....
Cheers,
Bernie

As always pay close attention on spindle height/dc resistance, or by just turning the spindle plate and the number of rotation,or rotation noise, then check also the light coming out on the laser lense with light or no light. but be careful, you should not be too close to the lense. check/clean the end to end part of the flexi wire with pencil eraser. sometimes flexi wires are broken. Sometimes it is good to have a known good Optical device to swap in case uore in doubt.

Hie Nelson, I totally I agree with u on the importance of paying attention to the height of the spindle, resistance, number of rotations and noise and whether the lense is giving out light however Iam lost where you say "check/clean the end to end part of the flex wire with pencil eraser" please help me.Truly Iam lost.

Hi Humberto
Nice article!
What made you think of checking the impedance of the spindle motor? Have you encountered problems with other spindle motors?
And do you recall the value you read vs what it should have read?
Humberto
October 14, 2013 at 10:59 pm
Yes, as I told previously, this kind of device has a spindle motor that is not too durable, therefore, it must be changed, the value I read was 7 ohms.

thanks for the article.
there is a test you could do to check the motor. get an anolog meter and set it to x1 and put the testing probes on the wires of the motor. it the motor is good, it will start to spin taking the power from the meter. if it did not spin. replace motor.

Hallo Jestine, I agree Mr Walleed Rishmawi comments. Sometimes if the motor could not spin we can try put some contactsspray on the spindle motor, and it works.

Hello Jestine,
Unfortunately our internet connection from our local ISP is really playing up especially trying to access Yahoo emails. I have a lot of repairing laptops & desktop sharing to upload but can't attach photos over the net (really slow). I will share some of my repairing tips when I have a chance to travel to a more faster reliable internet connection.
My apology for that
With Best Regards

Hi Jestine
Very nice article. I repair the same problem a bit differently as follows...
Normally in such cases the motor is at fault and we find the resistance to be above 100 ohms some times 250 ohms etc.when checked resistance of a new motor it is approximately 10 to 15 ohms. This problem arises due to carbon particles restored on the commutator of the motor. What we do is we remove the motor out of the assembly unit and apply a drop of WD40 or zurick on commutator from the ventilation provided. After few minutes we apply same dc voltage from an external power supply. The applied voltage should be as per the indicated voltage on the motor. The motor rotates for a few seconds and then the polarity of the DC supply is reverse . This is done a couple of times and again check the resistance and continue the process until we get the resistance below 20 ohms. I have done this many times and have been successful every time. This process is extremely cheap and takes a few seconds. If you don't have a power supply any 9V battery can be used. The above problem arises due to carbon settled on commutator of the motor. Replacement helps if you get the same replacement.
Please feel free to contact if you have any questions.
Best Regards

Thanks for the article. However, in this case, was the motor rotating, meaning could it have been rotating at a higher speed than normal or at the slower speed than normal? Or was not rotating at all?
From Anand Palker, it is also good practice to try to repair the same motor as spares of same replacement sometimes become very difficult to find. Do these smaller motors do have brushes as well that also get worn out after some time?

In this case the started rotating sometimes or trying to rtotate in some other times, and suddenly it stoped, showing the message NO DISK on display.
This little motors have carbon on the commutator of the motor.
