7 Inch Notebook Power Adapter Repaired
Customer visited my place with 7 inch notebook with the complaint of power On intermittently. When I have connected notebook with power adapter on mains there was no power light LED indication on notebook.
I have tested power adapter for voltages but I did not found any output voltages and this means the culprit is the power adaptor itself.
On visual inspection I found this adapter’s output power rating is 9VDC with 1500mA.
So I have decided to open the power supply and check if I could find some burn mark or physical damage. While opening the adapter I found the wire near rubber grommet was damaged.
So for this repair work I had to open the adapter and I did not find any physical damage/ Burn mark. Tested all surrounded parts by meters everything seems to be ok.
So final conclusions I had to cut the damaged wire and resolder the good one and once the power was applied the meter read 9.10V which means the power adapter is good.
Hence I have connected the adapter to the laptop and it can be turned On and managed to bring the laptop back to life again.

Those pesky twin conductor leads regularly fail at the junction with the grommet.
This has happened to me more often than other failures & always the grommet is of poor design & too stiff as is the cable it should protect.
Then of course users tend to apply strain to their cables without thinking.
You were lucky, generally I find that the shorted cables at the failure point cause other damage which makes any repair uneconomic.
Replacements from Ebay are generally low cost.
