A Cheap Bluetooth Speaker With Ripped Charging Ports Repaired
A young man walked into my shop carrying a cheap Bluetooth speaker and explained that he cannot charge the battery since he damaged the charging port inside. It was a really cheap speaker but he insisted on the repair because it has sentimental value to it.
I powered the speaker on to make sure all is well and sure enough, it powered on just fine;
I was able to connect my iphone to the Bluetooth of the speaker and surprisingly it sounded nice.
Here is a close up of the damaged charging port on this speaker and it was very easy to get inside of it by taking the four screws you see on four corners of that board.
It is a little bit out of focus but you can see the damage on that board.
On such boards, the pins on far ends of the port only needed to be soldered down to get the ground and the hot in order for the speaker to charge up.
Since I have a big patch of the C ports in the shop, I chose the same exact one and soldered as a replacement on board; as you can see in the photo, it is charging like it should.
I called the customer for pickup and he was delighted to see his speaker charging according to specs.
Mission Accomplished.

The smaller these USB ports get the higher the risk they get damaged as often shows. (PS: I accidentally pressed the dislike counter. Sorry. My old laptop's touchpad/keypad often has a will of its own).

Common problem with this types of SMD connectors on boards is ripped pad. connectors should have some types of interlacing design which hold the connector firmly on the PCB.
