A Dead Wax Melting Device Repaired and Maintained
This device was brought to me for repair. It is a wax melting device and it was completely dead. According to the customer she saw smoke coming out of the device and then it went dead.
It is a very cheap device and according to me it is not worth the fixing but the customer wanted to be fixed so here we go.
I powered the device and the on LED light did not come on indicating a problem here so I took it apart to find out the fault.
The customer said there was smoke coming out
and I could see the reason for it.
I took the top off and right away I took the white cable off and replaced it with a new cable.
It can be seen where the cable were connected; yes it is a simple fix and I wish all the repair are like it (LOL).
I powered on the device and right away I could see the red led light coming on indicating a good working device. I felt the heating plate (before it gets hot of course) and I could feel the heat increasing inside.
It is a simple fix but I look at it this way that I was able to help out a customer and to that I could say
Mission Accomplished.

Without a working cable it always is a dead end (lol)!

PS: If we want to know what the maximum voltage is that a small resistor can cope with we apparently use this formula √(PxR).
Which for instance tells us that a small 1812 1% Smd Chip resistor 4.5 x 3.2 mm size with value 10Mega-ohm 0.75Watt, is safe to use upto about 2783,6V.

PS2: Although more high ohmic resistors in series would be advisable for HV safety we could better use two 5Mega-ohm 1% resistors in serie instead. But in this case those seem not to exist. Why for my new to build project, this 1KV HV grafical curve tracer tester, See here =>
https://www.printables.com/model/347158-high-voltage-1000v-isolation-tester-1kv-curve-trac ,
I only use one 1812 10Mega-ohm resistor instead. Which was the biggest smd resistor I could find. This DIY project is like the fantastic DY294 high voltage component tester but now with a graphical 1.77 inch TFT lcd, that tests semiconductors and other components safely upto about 1000V and shows the break-down voltage of diodes, transistors, vdr's, etc. in a real curve. With a safe 0,45 mA max limited short current on its HV output.

Absolutely not true and that is a very dangerous and misleading assumption. As an example, the datasheet for a Panasonic ERJ Series thick film resistors clearly states that the maximum working voltage is either your equation above or "the Limiting Element voltage stated in the specification table - WHICHEVER IS LESS".
Datasheet here: https://www.farnell.com/datasheets/2883945.pdf
For the 1812 size package in this range the limiting element voltage is 200V, so the resistor should never be used at a voltage higher than that. Increased voltage rating should be achieved by either a correctly rated resistor (special high voltage SMD resistors are available but they are usually bigger than 1812) or a number of resistors in series.

Waleed,
You will also find open resistors in these types of machines. The manufacturers use low-power resistors, completely unsuited for the use. I replace them with 3W metal oxide.

Menahem: in this case there was no resistors just a bad power cable. Have a blessed day.

There are lot of poor quality cable carring devices in the market these days, have a nice day.

Imoudu: that is why I replaced the whole defected cable with a high standard one and so far no complaint. have a blessed day

Best fix, thanks to the chances liberally provided by the manufacturers! They feed work to us! Rather agents!

Good eye Waleed.
Perhaps the cable was under-rated for the current this device draws?
Or perhaps mechanical stress (bending back and forth) aided to its demise?

Tayo: I think it is a user issue since the cable was abused because it was bent in many areas. the cable was replace with a high quality one and so far no complaint. have a blessed day
