A Musical Keyboard With No Sound Repaired And Maintained. Roland E-40
A guy brought this musical keyboard for repair. The first problem he talked about was the keyboard does not come on but that was due to colder soldering joints on the main power board. The second problem that this key board has is no sound coming out of the speakers. It powers on just fine (cold solder joints fixed) but no audio coming out. Let us find the fault.
Since the fault was no audio, I headed directly to the audio board and the volume fader
because it did not look good and when sliding it up and down it was rough to move.
As you look to the left side of the board you will see some wires with different colors I took a photo of these colors just to make sure I put them back in the same order.
Next to these wires if you look carefully you would see the pins of the audio volume fader so that is where I am heading with this repair.
The audio fader looked really nasty and when I tried to clean it with special fader spry,
the problem remained so it was time to replace this fader with a new one.
Of course I did not have the same exact audio fader so I had to order it online and wait about two weeks or so to get back and as you can see, the top one is the new one so it was time to install and give it a try.
I soldered it back and powered on the device; yes, it worked like a charm. The sound was loud and clear and the customer after a long wait for the repair was so happy with the outcome.
