A UPS Device Powers On But Does Not Hold Charge Repaired
A guy and a close friend of mine brought this UPS device for repair and explained that this device powers on fine but it does not hold charge.
Since the device is needed urgently I opened up the device and checked what might be the fault.
From my experience working on these devices not holding a charge means bad batteries and when the device was opened and checked, my suspicion was very correct, take a look.
Do you see the fault? If you pay attention to the batteries you would see that they are swelled up but if this was not clear enough maybe this one would help.
Both batteries were swelled bad badly and needed replacement.
I called some shops for price on these batteries and found a very good price including delivery to my shop.
Before the end of the day I had these batteries in the shop ready to be installed in their new home (LOL).
Connect the positive to the positive and negative to the negative and in the center negative and positive connected together to produce the right specified voltage for this UPS.
I called the customer for pick up and while waiting, I started charging the batteries and it was working according to specs.
The customer showed up and collected his repaired device and kept thanking me for repair. A happy customer is the purpose of my work and to that I could say
Mission Accomplished.

I thought that these UPS devices normally all worked on 12V batteries? But yours was unexpectly operating on 24V. Because I once fixed such a defect UPS and it only used a 12V battery that was rip and also needed a new one. Luckily you found 2 new batteries for a very good price including delivery!

In all probability, they are connected parallel!

Though it looks like they were here placed in series doubling the 12V voltage at same current?

Albert: there are connected in parallel. I have seen UPS has more than four batteries and changing the batteries on those will break someone's budget for they are very costly but in this case I was able to replace with new batteries because they were cheap to find. have a blessed day

Great job Waleed. I use these batteries regularly in my workshop for testing purposes. I also use them in class at the college as they are a great, light weight power supply for demonstrations.

I thought connecting batteries in parallel increases current rather than voltage, good job though!

Imoudu: they are connected in series not Parallel increasing the voltage to 24 volts. have a blessed day

Waleed Rishmawi The few UPS that I have worked on had only one battery. Never repaired one with two. Good job on the repair.

Mark: there are UPS devices that has more than two actually and they come in different sizes and for different purposes. have a blessed day
