A Welding Machine With Broken Fan And Damaged Capacitor Repaired
A welding technician called me a about a damaged welding machine; the machine was dropped and when powering up the machine, it does not weld the way it should and the fan is has a rattling noise.
You can see the damaged metal side of this welding machine
but the customer wanted the inside component to be checked and repaired for he did not care much about the outside appearance.
The customer already taken the fan out to be replaced; it seems like he tried to find the right fan for it but did not succeed in his mission.
The fan coil was fine, the fins were damaged as seen and that is why the customer said it was rattling when the fan was spinning.
There was another issue with this welding machine; a bent capacitor on the power board that the customer did not worry about replacing assuming it was fine; it was not fine and it had to be replaced.
Few screws off and I was able to get the power board.
As seen, the capacitor was bent and when tested with ESR meter it was fine but…take a look.
The negative side of the capacitor was damaged and was barely attached to the power board of the machine and that is more than enough reason to replace it with a good one.
Both the capacitor and the fan were replaced (sorry forgot to take a photo of that) but when powering on the machine, the output voltage was fine and the fan was cooling with no rattling sound coming out.
Of course I had to take it next door for my brother to test and confirm that it was working fine and when approved, I called the customer for pick up.
Mission Accomplished.

Although the customer didn't bother about the looks and condition of his welding machine I may hope that he appreciated the replacement work you did for his invaluable device.
