AVG F3 – Black Portable Bluetooth Speaker
I came across a Bluetooth speaker with a non-functional USB port. Upon inspection, I discovered that the USB connector was damaged internally; the plastic piece inside the port that holds the pins in place was missing.
First, the PCB must be checked for any further damage; replacing the socket on the PCB is an easy task once the inspection is done.
Therefore, remove the top cover carefully, as it is secured by plastic locking.
I desoldered the USB socket and replaced it with one of the spare sockets I had bought for a computer; however, I ran into a problem—it wouldn’t fit into the cabinet. Because its physical shape at the front was different, it wouldn’t fit into the opening.
I can’t find this type of USB socket in the local market. I searched online too, but I’m only coming across sockets with different configurations—like vertical mounts, L-shapes, and so on. What seemed like a simple task has now stalled. I don’t want to damage the plastic housing where the socket fits because the lining is very thin; if it breaks while I’m trying to reshape it, I’ll be in trouble. So, I’ve put this repair on hold until I can source the right parts.
I put the repair on hold until I could source the right parts. A few days later, I visited the electronics market; I searched extensively but couldn’t find the specific socket. one shopkeeper told me he could arrange it if I ordered a certain quantity. I didn’t need a large quantity, so he suggested I leave a sample with him, promising to deliver the part as soon as it arrived. I left the part with him. Upon returning, I asked some technician friends if they needed it, and they were all willing to buy it in small quantities.
I placed the order the next day, and the items reached me after seven days. I received a total of 25 pieces and distributed 5 pieces each to the technicians according to their requirements.
On arrival I started the work again.
Replaced the new Socket.
Fitted top plastic Cover in its place & tested for working, now device is ready for the pickup.
It is good practice to stock the material in small quantity when parts locally not available.
