Bluetooth Speaker’s Charging Port Ripped Off

A friend in the neighbourhood brought a Bluetooth Speaker to me with complaint of not charging. With this I suspected the charging port, which on observation, I noticed the 4pins inside port had ripped off and fallen inside. See picture below:

The 4 pins inside the port ripped off completely damaging it’s solder pads and part of tracks, pictures below:

I attempted to replace the port but failed because there’s no solder pad to solder port on. So I called the customer to come pick it up since port can’t be replaced, but he suggested if I can modify it, which I was glad to do.

So I used blade to scratch the tiny remaining tracks + and – and soldered a wire to each, then also solder the other ends of wires to female connector. Then make a hole on front case of Bluetooth, glue female connector to the hole from inside with 4 minutes glue, see picture below:

Then connected 5V charger adapter to male connector and assembled everything together,

see for yourself the picture of the modified repaired work below:

If you zoom this picture, you will see the faint red charging light On. However since l couldn’t see the satisfaction bag of our colleague to drop it into, I called my client for collection, who came to pickup his device smiling.

i am also an apprentice but i am not working presently with the knowledge because most people just buy new ones here in my part of nigeria.
i salute your courage as nigerian, try as much as possible to repair many electronics as you can to build a safety and friendly environment

Hopefully these somewhat difficult USB replacement and repair situations will occure less frequently when the EU definitely no longer approves other charger ports than the newer USB-C types. Those are symmetrical and so will always fit without the need having to turn the plug in the right 180 degrees first.

Thanks for your comments. If you desire to grow in this field,you have to do more repair work.Do encourage people in ur neighbourhood to repair their devices,even phone charger,touchlight etc,from there they will get to know u and also u improve ur skills.This is how I started 4 yrs ago,have a nice day.

Further to my note I left before, when I zoomed into the photo I could see enough pads to add an actual charging port then connect a tiny wire to the positive line. You have enough ground pads to make a solid connection there. Have a blessed day.
