atx power supply fix

TROUBLE SHOOTING AND RECTIFICATION DONE: Opened and cleaned the SMPS, which had collected a lot of dust, as expected. Found the fuse, which was just a thin wire connected on the solder side, was intact. So applied power and looked for DC supply on the primary. This was missing.

Disconnected and checked the bridge rectifier with analogue Multimeter and found it to be open. As I had no stock of equivalent type of bridge rectifier, I used a round one and fixed it in its place. Did dry solder patch up. Checked ESR of capacitors and found these to be ok. Applied power and found it to be working very well, when tested with an ATX Power supply tester. I allowed it to work for some time before fitting it back. Mission accomplished and satisfaction got added!

Thanks for sharing. This time an easy repair. Is the pinout of the original flat bridge rectifier the same as the rounded one?

Yes. A wire does not have the same safety like that in the fuse. Fuse is made of special material as per standard specifications.
