philips dvd player repair

This dvd player was brought to me by a female neighbour with complaints of deadness. I did open cover case, inside not that dusty. plug its cord to a/c socket and tested for voltages….. no voltages at secondary side .The psb is unique in the sense that, it’s attached permanently to dvd lcd.

So i started checking from primary side: diode rectifier has voltages, then move on to tank e-capacitors….no voltage, so this means problem is before the cap, checked backward again and i detected an inductor connected to e-cap is open.

Then i replaced it and powered dvd, wow it came alive again, play a cartoon disc that came with it, it played well but another problem came up: the disc tray doesn’t slot out when eject button is press, also pause button doesn’t work.

So has i have learnt from this forum that all buttons should be changed even if it’s only one is defective, so i changed all (3)

    Well played Imoudu.
Was the inductor out of spec, shorted or open?

Very professional work Imoudu! Luckily these pushbuttons are plenty available at minimum cost online. And they at least work better then the cheap quality membrane push button switches used in most remotes. These tactile buttons also come in larger sizes and in different heights.

Good job on the repair. I usually find these button on old and new tv sets. They are very cheap and easy to replace. Thanks for sharing
