dlink router repair

There was a phone call from a customer saying there was problem with the Internet connection. He had already called internet service provider and after troubleshooting the guy concluded the line was good and the problem was on the hardware. So I went to visit my customer office and started troubleshooting.

First I have checked if there is any loose connection between PC and Router – but everything was ok. Now checked the Modem Router Light indication I am able to see Power light is on, ADSL Light is on, Now the problem I found is DATA light is “off ‘in online it should Blink as you access net, further checked LAN light that is also on. So I have found the location of fault that is router itself. This type of problem arises when Router is not configured properly hence I have checked router setting as per internet service provider guideline I found everything was ok as per their requirement.

Now what I asked myself.  I have decided to take the router to my service station for further diagnosis. I opened the router and took out the PCB for physical analyzing for burnout or any other physical damage but I have found nothing wrong on component side.

But as I turned the PCB on the solder side I found many dry joints.  I started to revive the dry joint by applying new solder. I cleaned the PCB with isopropyl alcohol and applied new solder on suspected joints .

After applying fresh solder I connected the router to my setup and now I can see the Light of hope yes Data Light is now blinking and I can able to access the internet.
