Dropped Value And Burst Capacitors Found In Impex DVD Player Prime HD
This DVD player belonged to a temple nearby and was brought to me with the complaint that it went dead while playing. I was happy to note that the outside was kept clean and there was not much dust collected inside, showing that the authorities concerned had indeed some care of the belongings. I saw a burst capacitor and the aluminium can was lying separately in the front side.
I removed the power supply board and discharged the tank capacitor as a measure of safety. (I kept the can near the cap for taking the photograph)
So removed the caps in the secondary one by one and replaced all of them. Removed the tank capacitor and look at what a checking revealed:
So, replaced that and also a 22/25V in the primary. Then did a thorough dry solder patch up. Cleaned and lubricated all the connectors and the lens unit movement rails. Cleaned the lens also using cotton. Lubricated the motors by just one drop of switch cleaning oil at the top using a syringe ensuring that there was no spill.
Temporarily connected the power supply and applied power and found that the set was working. Just checked all functions like eject/ load of the tray, selecting other tracks using the CD that was found inside. Then fixed the PS board in its place.
Then run several CDS and found everything was working just fine. I added this also to my 100% charity service! Mission accomplished and satisfaction had double reasons to jump into its bag.
Here is a picture of the components replaced:
