How To Fix A Hair Trimmer
A guy who recently came back from USA brought this hair trimmer for repair. The customer explained that he powered his 120 AC device through a 220 AC power and the result was a dead hair trimmer.
I suggested to the customer to throw it away since it is a cheap one and also the motor might be damaged beyond repair
but he insisted that he wants it repaired and in case it was not repaired he was willing to pay for the time and effort spent on this repair.
I clipped out the plastic piece on top exposing three screws out and I already took one out.
All the diodes (1N4007) seen in the photo were shorted out and had to be replaced but I was not sure about the motor.
I replaced the shorted diodes hoping for the best.
I was actually shocked that after replacing the shorted diodes and powering on the device through a 120 AC power source; the hair trimmer was working just fine. I guess that the diodes took all the damage protecting the motor from shorting out and that is a good thing that my time was not wasted in vain.
I called the customer and informed him about my repair success; he was very delighted with the result. I provided him with the right step down power adaptor that can handle up to 40 watts (the device is only 3 watts). There was a big smile on his face when he left the shop and to that I could say
Mission Accomplished.
