HP2015dn duplex laser Printer Repaired
Received call from the customer stating printer stuck up on error light. Visited customer place for troubleshooting.
Powered the printer found printer is stop responding on initialization on Toner Error Led indicator.
This error indicates problem with toner cartridge section. So removed toner cartridge for finding physical damage but cartridge found Ok. now suspected area is main logic board where cartridge sensor is connected.
So for further diagnosis I opened the left side cover for inspecting the logic board.
Checked logic board visually seems OK, no any physical damage on logic board now time to remove PCB for further inspection.
I started removing all the cables one by one. removed top FFC cable, I found FFC cable contacts are oxidized. On tracing I found this cable is connected to scanner unit.
Removed another FFC cable from the bottom side this cable is going to control panel this cable also oxidized.so cleaned both the cables using a blade. (Never use eraser for cleaning this type of cable or chances are high to damage the cable from the edge in past I have very bad experience when I used rubber eraser) for example, after rubbing with eraser left to Right or reverse, contacts gets rip off from the plastic base. Never rub it horizontal direction.
Right way is always as follows
Hence I cleaned the contacts using blade one by one.
After cleaning I decide to check if problem resolved. So I fixed the cables back on its position & turn On the Printer.
Printer is start to initialize & result is….
now error toner cartridge error is gone. I took few print outs it just works fine.

Good save Yogesh and excellent reminder about cleaning the ribbons. A dab of dielectric grease should prevent future corrosion.

Many thanks, Yogesh Panchal! That is a nice repair you have done! Thanks for the article and guidance for handling FFCs. I, somehow, have not ventured to open any printer, including mine, as I was afraid to break the locks without knowing how to open it.

Thank you! Sir
Every printers have different locking & opening procedure,Mostly we never perform any of this type of operation at customer place if we are not confident or familiar.
Because if customer notice that you are struggling for opening the case it is very difficult to convince the customer for Repair cost. While opening sometime it makes loud tick Noise when releasing the plastic locking & customer is damn sure that you have broken something.

Thank you for the tip about cleaning these fragile cables. I suspect an eraser used from bottom to top (with no sideway's movement) would be OK?

Thanks! Anthony Paterson,
Try to avoid using eraser on FFC Cables, lightly scratch it with Blade is good approach,Because when using eraser it will grab surrounding pins also,on pressure it will disturb the pins comes in contact.

I never used any rubber eraser successfully although some engineers wrote about the good job they did with it. Glad that you could fix those problematic FFC cables without breaking them.

Good job Yogesh! I completely agree about the top to bottom direction - this is very important. However, have you tried a fibreglass pencil for cleaning contacts like this? I only found out about the existence of such a thing recently and it has revolutionised my contact cleaning!

AdamS,
Thanks! for your comment, fiberglass pencil not used yet May be it works good if used in one direction.too much rubbing may make the job worst.still depends on your comfort.
