prestige induction cooker repair

This induction cooker along with a cloth iron was brought by a new customer, as per recommendation of one of my friends. He told me that the Induction Cooker (hereinafter referred to as ‘IC’) went off while working and the power in his house flickered. His house does not have an MCB and I could guess what would have happened immediately. The IGBT haD blown for sure. As he was in the habit of opening all his home appliances once in a while and do a thorough cleaning, I could find the inside very clean.

I checked the IGBT straightaway and found it to be short and removed it. The 12.5A fuse was also open. Just for the sake of checking, I shorted the fuse as I am using the AC outlet on my table through a 200W Bulb to obviate repercussions of any shorts inside the devices that I check. Then, when I powered the IC, it came on and was found responding to touch buttons too. Error E5 was shown by the IC, because of the absence of IGBT. Let us have a look at the inside and the boards used:

fixing induction cooker

All components were found marked very clearly on the board with its value and voltage. I checked the 18V of the fan while the unit was on and noticed that it was erratic. The electrolytic capacitors also showed out of range. So, I went ahead with my most favourite hobby of replacing all the ECs, including the 18V Zener and Fan. The fan has a tendency to draw more current or become erratic in its function over a period of time and that’s why I replaced that too. Then, when I applied the power and checked, the 18V was steady. The 5V was ok.

The high watt resistors as well as those which were SMD types were all checked before I applied the power. Then I used FGA25N120 (1200V 25A) in place of 15N120 (1200V 15A) that blew as the former could handle more current and fixed it firmly after applying heat zinc paste. The area has to be wiped clean of old heat zinc residue before we put fresh Then replaced the fuse with a 10A, as 12.5A fuse was not available in the market. I have seen only 10A fuses in ICs and this is the first time I was seeing a 12.5A fuse. After rechecking all connections including polarity of caps replaced, I connected all the boards back, just kept the top and switched on. E0 error was shown indicating that no vessel was kept on top. I put a vessel with little water on it and checked, keeping the default of 1300W. Then increased it to 1500W too.

The IC was found working very well on my service table. After ensuring that the water boiled, I fixed the bottom cover firmly with its screws and shifted the IC to my kitchen for further testing before giving delivery to the customer. I always do this as ICs have a tendency to fail within a few hours of use and I did not want to get a bad name especially with a new customer. These kinds of safety methods help us maintain credibility amongst the customers. The IC was found working very well in the kitchen and I rechecked it the next day morning before informing the customer to come and collect.

No, no, I have not forgotten my concluding statement; mission accomplished with satisfaction getting added to its collection. (LOL)

Luckily there is no power shortage in your area to still be able to fix and uses these high power needing IC devices. Because I was hearing about India's capital Delhi that recently was reeling under a prolonged heatwave that has sent power demand soaring to a record 8,647 megawatts (MW). And this likely happens in other countries all over the globe now too?
