Interchange Of LED TV Panel Of Different Brand
By Jestine Yong on April 13, 2024
These two 32″ tvs (Lg and Sharp) belong to me. The Lg tv plays flash drive videos, but its panel broke, while the Sharp aques tv is ok but its usb input can’t play flash drive( manufactured so from factory) So since i need a tv for my flash drive, i thought of replacing lg broken panel with the Sharp screen panel.
So i removed back cases of the two tvs and studied very well their t-con, main and power boards. Ofcourse they are not same except t-con boards and panel, one having a longer flex than other.
From my observation i thought the interchange should fit. So the repair started: first i try to remove panel screen from sharp tv which i find a bit difficult being my first time of handling sharp aques tv panel. If you’re doing this first time pls note this: the two sides of its panel are glued to up and down frames and you can’t just lift it up as you do in other tv e.g lg or china tvs, if you do, the panel will crack. I had to use razor blade to carefully cut the thin pad used to glue panel on both sides.
Having done this, i now transferred panel from sharp tv chassis to lg tv chassis carefully, did other necessary connections and switch on….alas pictures show beautifully but there is a problem!! There are white spots light appearing on panel which i guess are leds’ lights, the leds domes are not fallen though.
I tried to reduce brightness, yet problem remains, measured the leds’ operating voltage which is 50.38V. Well, fellow colleagues any suggestions how to solve this kind problem will be appreciated. Can i say this is the “finished” repaired work!!! See pictures below:

If the diffuser lens caps have not come loose from the leds than it is hard to solve I'm afraid, Imoudu. Previously I had the same issue with a lcd tv I had found in the garbage that showed the same issue after replacing all three led strips.
Setting the brightness or the contrast didn't help then either.
And my guess is that the owner who discarged that tv had tried to repair the tv but after opening maybe also had removed one of the reflector sheets that normally are placed on top of the led strips for extra spreading the white light. Which led to the too visible bright 'sunny' white spots.

But it appears that some panels have a special coating/layer for diffusing LED backlights and some do not.
Otherwise it would have been a perfect fit. Good try Imoudu. You were lucky to even have 2 TVs with the same or compatible panels.

Check led voltage on sharp panel and if it is not around 50v, then reduce voltage drive to led’s on lg, also try reducing backlight, hope this helps.

It is a very good attempt! Kindly use the same backlight of the working panel and place it exactly in the same place as it was. Then it might work. Congratulations and all the very best!

I have repaired a few TV sets and I found out that the cool white led's show bright like yours, when the led's are supposed to be warm white , Same voltages for both , it is annoying when schematics and parts lists are not available , I do stock a few different kinds of led's as far as volt's and sizes , but I can't stock every one out there .....

Thank you for sharing such repairs with us, often this problem is caused by the falling of those light-dispersing lenses, but you said that they did not fall, this is how the image appears to be defective, the screen must be re-raised and the LED lights can be accessed and the matter discovered, perhaps someone has removed all of these light dispersing lenses.

Hollis.L,
Thanks for your comments, it's absolutely impossible for a technician to stock pile all kind of led strips, except such wants to be a whole sales dealer of such, have a nice day.
