Metal Grinder With Intermittent Issue Repaired And Maintained
A friend of mine called me about a problem in his grinder that he has been experiencing. He said that it keeps shutting off and if he wiggles the power cable around, the grinder would work for a while then it shuts down.
He brought the grinder to my shop and once I unscrewed the lower side plastic off, I was able to see the main connection.
I cleaned that areas since it was very dusty and checked the connection there, no faulty was found in that area.
That is a close up shot of the main connection area and as seen the power cable was secured with two screws and that why I checked that area just to make sure these screws were tight enough but since it was not the issue here I moved on to the main cable which I think that is the problem here.
My friend said that is the area where he usually wiggles the power cable to make it work so I cut it off because I saw a break at the end of the cable from the grinder side.
This is the area where the cable is pressed down and usually that is the weak area where the cable goes bad.
Once I tested it with my multi meter (which I should have done in the first place) there was a continuity issue in this area so the fault was found and will be dealt with.
I spliced the cable off, add a metal sleeve to the end of both wires, pressed them and then screwed then back to the main connection and tested the grinder after I put the plastic cover back on.
It worked like charm. My friend was having coffee with my brother next door so I called him and showed him the grinder. Right away He powered it on and started to wiggle the cable around while the grinder was on; I could see a smile on his face that he was happy with the outcome and he offered to pay for the repair job and I said no because it was not a big deal and he is a close friend.
Mission Accomplished.

It sounds like a great advertisement slogan "free coffee while you wait" and even the fast fixes were for free. Good job and nice read!
