Mosquito Bat Repaired

Received Mosquito bat for repair, stating it was not working.

I pressed trigger switch but there was no sign of life.

No LED light indication & no spark on zapper net. Hence dismantled the unit for further inspection.

I found Battery wire was disconnected from the battery. Re-soldered the wire on Battery & checked again still same problem. (Maybe wire was broken while disassembly).

I have an analog Multimeter, it was lying unused for many years. Hence I thought just check if it is working. So I checked the Voltages on Battery it was showing around 4v. Seems ok as per the battery marking. (Analog meter is very Good meter for testing Components & to identifying output voltage oscillation).

So checked all the components on cold test, seems ok, still I removed the switching transistor for testing. Transistor used is D882P and it is a NPN transistor.

D882P Transistor

Checked and found OK.

Working of these types of Bats is almost same. (For more Details on Testing you can just follow my previous article  Link https://jestineyong.com/mosquito-killer-racket-repaired-for-low-sparking/).

Now I checked everything such as Diodes, Transistor, Transformer, switch and everything was working fine, so where was the problem? Now I am having doubt on the Battery itself.

I decided to test the Bat on external supply, I connected my variable Elimeter, set my Elimeter on 4.5v & applied power & pressed trigger switch & I seen Red LED on handle light up I touched screw driver on net & heard loud spark & it confirmed my doubt on the Battery…. Battery was showing Ok 4V but it was not holding current. Battery was bad hence I bought new battery for replacement.

The mosquitoes in the area would have called an urgent meeting to pass a resolution to take legal action against you! (LOL) A thorough job to help the owners defend themselves from the mosquitoes! Thanks for sharing, Yogesh Bai!

Most mosquito bats here are cheap and only need two AA batteries. Those are easily replaced when drained. So there is no need for any expensive chargeable 4V battery either.

Albert, As per my opinion Rechargeable batteries are the best solution, you don't need to change batteries frequently.

It's a well job done, however i for one don't buy devices that uses acid-lead battery, neither do i replace such battery on customers' devices because these batteries don't last long and customers come back complaining.Rather i modify such device with li-ion battery module with customer consent.

      Imoudu.O,
Any Rechargeable battery needs Charging as how frequent you use.i am using Lead-Acid 4V battery in my racket since last 2 years without any problem;as i am charging it every week whether i you use it or not. of course Li-ion Battery is the best solution.
