Mystery In Satellite Receiver Repair
The problem with this satellite receiver was, it could not search for TV channels and the signals and quality antenna indication bars over LED display showed zero.
Actually the tuner could not sense the signals that is coming from LNB. Power supply output voltages were good and within the tolerance range. Since over display of menu on LED screen was perfect I assumed that motherboard must be intact, voltage regulators on mother board were good and voltages were in tolerances.
Meanwhile I decided to see the solder side of the motherboard
By inspection of solder side of mother board I discovered a great mystery I found (the dried water trace) in the tuner and the solder side of motherboard and seems water was stayed there for a long time.
This means that water reached the tuner as well as the bottom of mother board somehow via LNB cable during the rainy days? Or could it be the water was accidentally splashed during the daily housekeeping jobs? ….etc-see the photo below:
From now on the tuner was the main suspect to me. I had three options for repair:
First option:
Find new tuner and replace the bad one and the problem for this option was to order it from china and it will be expensive and time consuming.
Second option:
Repairing of the tuner need parts that rarely can be found in our local market.
Third option:
To salvage a good condition tuner from junk board.
Since this is the easiest option, I found one tuner from the junk board and replaced it. I can’t believe that the satellite receiver worked again after the replacement.
The big question is how the water entered the receiver was still a mystery to me. The owner also has no idea about that.
Note: Fortunately and surprisingly the water did not damage the motherboard except the tuner.

Hi Dmitriy
For my case most properly the LNB cable is the responsible for bringing down the water to receiver. &
thanks

Dmitriy . yes specially when the LNB and receiver are near together the dish is outside of window and the receiver is inside the room and with a small length of cable are hooked together in this case water can penetrate to machine...........

Water or moisture is the main enemy of every electronic device. Good thing that you were still able to save it from the dump!

Hi Albert
I want to add to moisture heat and dust as enemy s of electronics. and thanks.

Albert .most of chines satellite receivers are using same type tuners same model. 3.3 volts is coming from out side of tuner and goes to a 4 pod transistor SMD with code number T1J rarely you can find in the market of the world with working frequency 2 GIGA hertz but i found a substitution another one 3355 but with working frequency 1 gigs is better than nothing inside the tuner you will find 5 L the ohm value of each must be zero and 30 cap that you have to test them one by one to find the leaky one.. out side the circuit of course!.... if you can not see 3.3 volts inside the tuner you have to find out why?...

...mentioned transistor is main transistor for amplification of all RF frequencies that are coming from LNB . and is most problematic
part in these kind of tuner. to find out that this transistor is good or bad first you to uncover the tuner and then turn on the TV
just by touching the transistor by your finger you will recognize that this transistor is hot or not if you feel transistor is getting hot for sure this transistor is gone and must be replace...

the water gets into the decoder via the coaxial cable form outside

Hi George
yes this is true and if you do not pay enough attention to water marks for sure you will have problem to fix the receiver .

Hi Ivan
the manufacturer of LNB s in same box of LNB package sending special accessories rubber/or plastic cover to cover the end of cables to LNB but unfortunately the installers of LNBs do not pay enough attention and do not cover the point of installation by this rubber cover and that why in rainy days water goes inside/and or out side of cable and directly comes to your receiver and tuner...

Beh!
These type of problem is common in "Satellite Receiver" & "DSL broadband" connection.Because service providers are using outside cable without "jelly filled". so that rain water can easily pass through the outer jacket of the cable up to the equipment.

Hi YOGESH
Yes this is true . And as i told in comments repairing the tuner is also difficult due to lack of parts in the market .
thanks & regards
