Old Mobile Charger Repaired
Same charger I repaired a few months’ back, I used for my magnifier glass. It was working fine after repair but one day I was using the magnifier and suddenly it went off.
Last time I replaced one Capacitor which causing LED flickering problem. Again I opened the adapter for inspection. Physically seems ok with no dry solder, no burn out. I took out my Multimeter & checked AC 220v input on wires showing OK.
But no voltage after primary Diode now I started cold testing. Found 8.2v Zener diode dead short.
Removed Diode for testing it outside.
Now tested other components also for testing but rest of the things seems OK. No shorting further hence took out replacement diode from my diode box. Soldered on its place applied voltage but still no output.
Now I removed Transistor marked with MJE X13001 & on testing I found this transistor was totally opened circuit.
I found one salvaged transistor marked with 13001 & tested with my Multimeter it shows different pinout (Not as per the PCB), I confused & searched on net here also I got some confusing results for 13001 pinouts. Original Transistor as per PCB Connection should be like.
Searched for more options in my component box I found one 13003 marked transistor testing with Multimeter it shows same pin out as per the PCB. Checked datasheet of 13003 but not sure about data of Original Bad Transistor.
So here I have to take a chance. Hence I replaced the 13001 transistor with 13003 transistors.
After replacing components, I connected the adapter to the power board.
Checked O/p Dc voltage on USB socket it shows 5.2v seems OK & Adapter is working now.

That is very good repair work and thanks for sharing. 13003 is better rated and it can be used.

This sort of repair complete with good detailed pcb circuit work are a real treat for me and probably many other electronic reader enthousiasts!
PS: the STX13005 is probably even better (Uce 700V /Ic 3A) and has the same TO-92 size. Probably the same pinconfiguration but are sadly harder to find online!

PS: about 50 of those STX13005 on eBay cost about 13,50 dollar with 7,40 dollar on shipping cost.

Power Dissipation of 13003 is 25W & for 13005 is 20W.

Yes, I get this kind of confusion sometimes when checking the internet about parts but you did it and brought the device back to life. Thanks for sharing
