Received Creative SBS 240 Speakers For Repair
Stated problem left side speaker working ok but right side speaker does not work. Connected speaker on my setup computer on playing song I found exact same problem as stated. But on keeping volume control on full volume it works for few seconds and gives distorted noise on right side speaker.
So opened the speaker for further inspection from inside. I found speakers metal body is badly rusted. Checked speaker Ohms using Multimeter it shows 4Ω OK. So now suspected is the circuit.
Found circuit is full of dust, so cleaned it from component side. But from solder side it is totally degraded.
Cleaned circuit before further inspection. Refreshed some solder joints & checked but no effect on the symptom.
Instead of looking further in the circuit I decided to just remove Volume control & see. Because when checked earlier it works on full volume. So I took out some Volume controls from my junk box.
Original Volume control on PCB is A10K.
Removed A10K Pot from the PCB.
I did not found A10K in my collection but am having type B10K Pot, so just for testing I soldered it on PCB.
Here type A for logarithmic and type B for linear
For testing I connected the speaker to my computer for testing …Now It works perfect with smooth volume operation.
So here culprit is volume control itself.

Volume control can give nasty problems and it cannot be found out with usual tests. Replacement is the only option. Good work, dear Yogesh!

that is a lot of rust especially on board. good thing you replaced the volume pots because that is the only good way to restore the good sound or no sound issue which is way much better than just cleaning them. thanks for sharing and have a blessed day

A and B potmeters are logaritmic or linear . Different volume control and range- setting.
