Received computer for not turning ON, checked on my setup found same problem.

Opened the computer found very dusty in side. So first of all I used my vacuum cleaner to blow off dust from inside the computer, for testing I connected it again on power, but still same problem.

Checked SMPS for working by disconnecting Motherboard found OK. For testing ATX SMPS alone without motherboard, we have to short PS_ON (Green wire with the Ground Black wire) on main power connector.

atx connector green to black turn On

On Power ON, ATX SMPS FAN start rotating this confirms SMPS is Working.

(This is on an average idea; this test does not confirm that all voltages on ATX SMPS are available on the Connector) but chances are 75% it confirms the SMPS is in working condition.

Here I found SMPS is working ok.  Now removed RAM Modules Cleaned & tested again but same problem. For further testing removed Motherboard. On visual inspection nothing found doubtful.

Glad to see that none of the cpu contacts were irreparably damaged and that the cpu socket was still fine too!

Albert, this CPU Socket is very delicate,
Pins can easily gets damaged while cleaning & very difficult to put it in line or repair without microscope. But most of the time culprit is CPU Contacts if no one tempered CPU Socket Before.

For ATX power supply you can use a tester to test all the output coming out of that power supply. I use it slot and it is very convenient for such repair. Thanks for sharing and have a blessed day.

      Thanks! Waleed,
By shorting ATX SMPS PS_ON signal(Green Wire) with ground (Black wire) if SMPS FAN is spinning it confirms most of time in 85% cases SMPS working OK.

    Dear Yogesh, great repair story!
What I have encountered a few times (with certain ,older?, chipsets) is that a drained RTC battery can have the same effect.
It is a quick test with a multimeter before dismantling the whole system 🙂

      You are right! Maarten Dekkers
if you want to check the battery, better way is to replace new battery, because sometime old battery showing you Good voltage but it can not deliver required current. There can be many other reasons involved for this type of faults.
