Sandwich Toaster Repaired
In rainy season I asked my wife to make some toast sandwich with Ginger tea. She took out the toaster prepared the recipe but toaster was not turning ON.
She put the toaster on my bench and I understood I have to wait for the sandwich till the toaster gets repaired.
So I put all my work a side and started troubleshooting. First I started visual inspection.
I found Power cord was totally degraded & rubber sleeve was torn off from many side. So I arranged one heavy duty power cord used in laser printer because the toaster have a rating of 600W.
First I took photograph of old wire connection, because if any wire fall down it would be difficult to trace .
Then I cut down the power cord by 2 inches away , so that I can replace the cable one by on from each point.
I found Lugs connected with wires are useless because they were rusted.
So prepared the new wire with making hollow knot and applying solder on it so that it can properly fit in screw as a LUG.
Connected back the box cover.
Now toaster on test.
Toaster was back in the kitchen & now I am waiting for the Toast Sandwich.

That looked like a dangerous sandwich toaster that could have caused serious electrifying events in the kitchen. Especially when water is involved to make thee. Good thing your wife took no chances and immediately asked for your professionally skills to fix it. And nice job on the replacement lugs you made!

Albert, this toaster is almost 25 Years old, wire is under cotton sleeve hence it is difficult to visualize.I always make wire lugs from the same wire end, just strip the wire 1.5 Inch, twist the wire,as per thickness of the screw, wind it on the screw screw, remove the wire from the screw, Apply flux & make layer of solder on it....Lugs is ready.

Good one Yogesh.
I might have opted for a higher gauge wire/cable as it seems to me that they used this sandwich maker A LOT!
Or perhaps slip a spring over the end and heat shrink it in place for strain relief?

Excellent quick fix! You ensured that you did not miss your bread toast! Ha! Ha! I liked your innovative idea of making the end of the wire as a lug! That was an out of the box thinking!

Thank You! Sir
Offer of bread toast with ginger tea in rainy, i couldn't resist it....Ha Ha Ha.
i see many equipment having Metal clips which get rusted and breakout.this is tested way of making lugs out of thick Copper wire & applying solder on it so that it can not get oxidized on longer run.
