Seagate GoFlex External USB HDD Intermittent Working Solved
As per customer stated the problem that HDD works when he bend the cable from HDD connector side.
I have start diagnosis. I have connected the unit to my computer and confirmed the same problem so definitely I have doubt on the cable because when you bend the cable some time it works some time it won’t. This cable is USB 3.0 ver. for confirmation I have removed the cable and connected to other device it has worked perfectly even I have checked with twisting and bending the cable but it worked perfect. So problem is not with cable but something is wrong with the unit where cable gets connect on the HDD.
So I removed that unit from the HDD casing
And dismantled the unit to see what is inside as soon as I opened the unit USB3.0 socket fell down itself.
So this is the problem ……………..now it is time to solder it back by applying flux
I would prefer to use this type of semi liquid flux because it can easily get cleaned by using IP after soldering / desoldering. rather than using old type hard paste that you have to scrap it from the PCB using some pointing device to clean.
I have resoldered the same socket as I didn’t found any damage on PCB trace and socket itself is found ok. (Use Magnifier glass to check this type of micro solders for shorting side by pins)
Now it is time to reassemble the unit and testing…
After reassembling connected the drive to my PC it detects and found working ok.

Those Blue USB 3.0 cables are indeed way too stiff to use without causing any problems in time! I know this from my brandnew external USB 3.0 two-and-a-half inch hdd that won't work if I position the cable wrong. Like those stiff HDMi cables which do not take much before the wires or the plugs brake.

Absolutely Right! Albert,
This is because of stiff cable it does not bend easily hence making load on connector.
