SMPS voltage outputs are too high

By on August 7, 2013

I have a satellite receiver whose SMPS voltage outputs are too high, the 30V rail gives me 50V, the 23V gives 38V and they blew some components on the main-board. Would you please help me troubleshoot this problem.

Answer:

Check the Optoisolator IC, TL431 and the secondary feedback resistor located nearby this area. If the resistor value have increased all the output voltages will increase. Sometimes the TL431 and Optoisolator IC can breakdown when under load. Try direct replace and retest.
