Something Exploded Inside The Welding Machine
The welding technician explained as he brought this welding machine to be fixed; while the machine was powered on but in operation something exploded inside and the machine went into shut down.
It is an Apex brand, very tiny machine but one of the good ones that I encountered in my shop.
Many welding technicians use them; they are very cheap and because they are tiny, they are very easy to carry around in the field.
The moment I took the cover off exposing the inside boards, right away I was able to tell what was wrong with this welding machine.
It should be an easy fix but it is time consuming repair since there are two boards attached to each other but it is doable.
It is a 150 UF/400 volts capacitor that exploded inside the machine and it has to be replaced.
The only one I could find in my shop was a 150 UF/450 volts capacitor and it should be a perfect replacement.
My only concern about that capacitor was the length of it. I installed it and at the same time was hoping that the tip of that capacitor will not touch the body of the welding machine. To be on the safe side, I added an insulating tape on the top of that capacitor and then put the metal cover back on the machine and was happy that it was not even close to touch that metal cover.
The voltages were according to specification and the when the customer came for pick up he gave it a try but I was not allowed to take a photo of him working on that machine. The customer was happy with the result and to that I could say with a big satisfaction…
Mission Accomplished.

It is funny that you always speak highly about these special good Welding machines even when we see that also those good ones find your shop after they needed fixing.

Albert: we have to differentiate between good machines and misuse of the machine. yes these are good machines but when the technician misuse it, the it not the fault of the machine. have a blessed day

Anwar: there was no need to do that since the ESR reading on them were perfect and they were not damaged. actually I had a machine just like that and I did not replace the damaged part just took off board it worked fine but of course that was just a test and later on I added a new capacitor to that and the repair was done. have a blessed day

Good job, and if you checked the ESR of the rest of the e-caps, this repair is with warranty
