Table Lamp Repair
This table lamp was brought to me with complaint of both solar and usb circuits not charging. I’ve being receiving this kind of lamp in the neighbourhood with the same problems for quite some time now.
This lamp uses usb type C (6 pins) cord for charging and its tracks are so weak,that if any component breaks off the track,it goes off with the entire soldering pad….observe the six soldering pads that had peel off in the picture below:
So it becomes absolutely impossible to replace the usb charging point, so I have to devise another means to make this lamp work. After studying charging circuit, I noticed 5V enters charging ic through a 1omh resistor and smd cap. So I did solder the usb positive wire to the resistor and negative wire to body of female usb type A .
This’s a bit difficult task for me because resistor can easily burn off and if it does you can’t solder a replacement there. To be honest I have failed in repairing some of this lamp because of same problem of resistor burning or falling off.
Infact the two resistors responsible for solar charging circuit had got shorted and it can’t be replaced, this I inform customer.
After soldering + and – wires,I used glue call JB Wield, an American glue,usually being use by automobile mechanics (which my late papa was) to lace the two wires to prevent any further disconnect which could render lamp unrepairable, then I try to charge it…. see result below

Good Fix!Imoudu,
now a days repairing these type of PCBs we must have Temperature controlled micro soldering station as well microscope camera.

Nice fix Imoudu! It is odd that these small usb ports with tiny copper pads that originally just were designed to only transfer data and connect to computer devices now also are standardized to power on and charge devices!
