solder iron repair

This is a handy tool that I bought a few months back. I used this often when working on SMD components and doing some minute soldering works. The backup time, unfortunately, is not good enough when used in high temp mode. But when we do work on T-con or Scalar Boards of LED TVs, this is very handy and we can finish the work quickly. Recently it developed problems such as not getting charged fully, buttons not responding and tip not getting heated up.

So, I got a chance to look into it and that is why I thought of sharing it with you all, since this tool might be of interest. Since I noticed that the two sides of the iron were covered with tight caps on both sides, I pried it open, upon which I could locate two screws at each side holding the sides together. Let us have a look:

As you might probably have noticed from the second picture, there were dry solders all around.

I retouched all the points including the tip holding sockets and USB port holder. Then it looked well and healthy:

Then when I inserted the battery and tested with the tip loaded, it was working very well. Even the charging was taking place properly. The heating selection one, two and three also worked very well.

Mission accomplished with a different double satisfaction getting added to the collection.

Glad that you were able to keep your portable soldering iron fixed and ready for the next repair! I own two of these rechargeable soldering irons but different too. One is a battery operated Weller BP860 11W/8W 6Volts (someone gave me but have never use it yet. Needs 4 AA batteries). And a second one is a cordless chargeable Parkside PLKA 3.6 A1 1.5Ah max 470 degrees Celsius soldering iron which I also bought for my brother. Interesting to know is that when these Parkside soldering irons with their 18650 li-ion battery no longer work after long not been used or charged, a short 4V charge revives their battery and everyting functions again!

Somehow, I am crazy in adding up new tools to my workshop, though I doubt whether I am justified in getting them. I buy these like children who keep grabbing whatever toys they can get and ultimately discard them or spoil them. Many thanks, dear Yogesh Bai!

Parasuraman well done on the repair. I am like that also. I always buy new tools whether I need them or not. Just like a child wanting a new toy.
