Universal 32″ TV Wouldn’t ‘Power On’
This TV was brought to me with complaints of not powering on. This TV had been repaired by me before (see article 23/2/22). I opened the back case, did physical observation, no sign of any faulty components, so l did voltages test on the combo mother board at various points, these were present: 12V, 5V, 19V, 3.3V, 12V,1.16, but 1.8V was absent.
So I checked on mosfet responsible for switching on 5V to voltage regulator, which in turn generate 1.8V, this fet was good. So I suspected voltage regulator may be faulty, I replaced the 8 pins voltage regulator with a new one.
Then assembled everything together and powered on tv set: wowed it came on beautifully.
This’s the finished repaired work.
This article was prepared for you by Imoudu Onwumah from Nigeria. He is 62 years old and has just 3 years experience in electronics repairs. I started career in hotel industry as a chef, but then I was doing repairs only in electrical repairs as a hobbyist. In 2018, I decided to learn about electronics which through Jestine’s electronics e-books and holding my hand, am an electronics techie today.

I checked all articles about this tv to find out what 8 pins power regulator chip exactly was replaced but sadly the photos were too blurry and the type was neither mentioned here?

Good fix! Looks like Mosfet Driver which provide gate drive to the MosFet.

Short and to the point but totally agree with Albert, the part number should be mentioned in the article. Have a blessed day.

Thanks Imoudu for providing that information!
Not a controller chip I knew of. Good to know. I will look for that datasheet.
It strangely wasn't mentioned in the previous articles of this tv before either, why I asked.
Have a nice day too!
