Will Resistor Breakdown When Under Load?

By on April 30, 2013

Resistors can be kept for a very long time and not like electrolytic capacitor where one has to use it fresh. If you have kept an electrolytic capacitor for more then 7 to 10 years there is a chance the electrolyte will slowly dry up and affect the circuit once you use it. Since resistor won’t degrade according to time then will a resistor have a problem of breaking down when under load? Or it just happen only to semiconductors. Have you came across such problem with resistors?
