This is one of the toys that my son wanted to give to his friend. I asked my son if the toy is working and he said yes it is but when I installed the batteries and tested the toy, it did not come one. I am glad I checked.

It is a nice toy and it looks like a folder then you add a book to it, press the button and it will read the book for you.

My son loved it very much but it was to move on.

It comes with a lot of books that you can add to this toy and actually reads them to you.

Something I noticed with I put the batteries in that one of the pins was rusty and when I tried to give a clean, it broke.

That is the book reader inside view of the board.

It looks very complicated. The repair is concentrated on the battery compartment.

With a needle nose plier I was able to pull up the metal sheet that connect two batteries together and replace it with a different but new one.

As you can see, the spring piece is broken and had to be replaced. The only replacement I could find is from a remote control pins.

This is the replacement pin.

The moment I installed the batteries, I could hear music coming out of the toy and to confirm it, I am getting 4.421 volts on my multi meter.

Red light is on, music on and the reading continues.

Mission accomplished.

Rust is never a good sign and always can be found in battery compartments first.
If batteries were leaking the metal plates get rusted. They say that we can undo most of the damage with washing soap. Corroded metal we can let soak in a lot of soap for a day or two until we can brush away most of the often greenish corrosion. (in chemistry we have salts and bases and we nutrualize one with the other to undo damage). And washing machine powder soap is often used to undo rust on metal iron tools.

Vow! Another kid is very happy to have got back the toy in good working condition. It is always a pleasure to see the sparkle in the face of kids whenever we fix something for them. They are so innocent that we too get the positive charge from them quickly. Well, a good and rewarding job there!

Parasuraman: indeed. It was worth it. My son was excited to give his own toy to someone else and to see the smile in his face and I was proud of my son for doing this. Have a blessed day

Agree with Albert, In most of the device which run on pencil cell in battery compartment this metal clips are always problem. why these manufacturers are not using some different type of metal say Brass stainless steel or Plated copper, hardly it may make difference to them of cent or two in cost wise.

Waleed, I always salvage this types of parts from badly damaged equipment because of irreparable condition of those bad Epoxy covered IC.

This may have been an easy repair, but to see real joy on a child's face is worth more than money. After all, how many times does money bring Joy? Then the joy was given to the child that received the book reader.

In case off akaline battery i Read that vinegar neutralise corrosion on the terminals. I ordered new terminals on AliExpress for this kind off cases. They are cheap. But they are still laying for 20 days in liege (belgium) and no sign of movement now.
    +++++++++++++++
