Multimeter LCD Screen Black Oval Patch Repaired
Once I borrowed the Multimeter from one of my techie friend’s while I was on casual meet to one of my relative who is staying nearby this guy…….my relative’s some power adaptor is not working so for confirm the same I arranged this meter for testing. I saw the meter’s LCD screen is damaged & difficult to read the numbers in the bright light.
Talked to my techie friend about he confirmed & he told me… he has rarely use this meter as LCD replacement is not available. My friend is working in some Company as an in-house maintenance technician.
I took this meter to my place to see if I can do anything to help him.
Opened the Multimeter, oval patch is visible from the back side of the LCD.
So dismantled the meter for further inspection……
Seems LCD Reflector layer damaged …so peeled off the reflector layer using Blade
Found shiny silver reflector is damaged & glue is degraded …so removed and cleaned the LCD using petrol. Now what?????…………… arrange transparent glue & silver reflector.
First I thought to put Silver Aluminum Foil…. but because of crease in foil will distract the viewing & putting glue on that it does not sound the proper solution… because I am not sure about transparent glue….
So I divert to second idea to put the reflector getting from my salvaged bad LCD Monitors screen.
Cut the sheet as per LCD Size
Putt the reflective material piece on the LCD & applied glue on left & right edges of LCD & reflector so that it holds the layer on the place. (This reflector is not Silver type it is having shade of the pearl white)
& result is
And meter is sent back to my techie friend with successful repair………….

Very nice solution that I will keep in mind to save the reflector sheet when I dismantle a defect LCD screen or tv in the near future!
