A Hidden But Easy To Fix A Wheel Chair Control/Charging Board
A customer and a friend of mine came to my shop asking for a help on his father’s wheel chair charging issue. They tried to charge the wheel chair battery but for some reason, they were not able to. So they came up with the idea of charging the battery directly from an external charger without going to the charging board but it was a big hassle to do so.
It was already opened when it got to my shop and that was not a good sign for me because I do not know what the other technicians tried to do or did to the charger.
They did not have the right charger to do the charging in the first place so they were charging it externally with a charger that does not meet the requirement of this wheel chair specs and that worried me a lot.
I have the exact charger with the right specs for the device and the customer was willing to buy it off me if the charging issue was resolved and based on that I started the diagnose and the repairing process.
That is the charging board and it was nice and clean and the moment I plugged my charger in the charging board, the socket did not fit in nicely so there was an issue with the actual charging socket and I was hoping that is the only problem with it.
Since I could not see the inside of the charging socket, I had to de soldered it off board and check with the microscope and I found something stuck inside the left side of the charging socket.
If you look closely to the left side of the socket, you would see that someone tried to take that off because I could see some marks on the hole and obviously, that kind of repair did not work out.
I was able to pull out blocked side with a needle nose pliers and managed to get the broken piece off and you can see that in the photo. It was time to put everything back together and test it out.
Yes, it worked like a charm so I called the customer to come and pick up his device and test it on the actual wheel chair.
That is the charger that I have in the shop so I sold it to the customer for a reasonable price and as you can see, the yellow light is on indicating a charge.
That is the specks of the charger which fit perfectly to charge his wheel chair in this situation.
Mission accomplished.

Good job done with another satisfied customer. They though were extremely lucky that they didn't damage and explode the battery while trying to charge it externally!
