Samsung Phone Charger Consistently Repaired

This charger is my Samsung phone charger which has served its purpose for the past 3 years but last month it got burnt and on visual observation: the fuse, bridge rectifier, tank cap, power ic, also track of power ic (pin 3) all got burnt.

I replaced all and charger bounce back to life. However as result of using it to charge another device l was repairing this month, this same changer got damaged again.

On examining it, it was only the secondary output diode that got opened (Yellow Arrow).

The I.d mark number is SS510, this is schottky barrier rectifier diode, I don’t have this diode, so I decided to use a diode which I extracted from discarded 5V power module, (SS36).

This diode is use for 5v secondary voltage output on module, so I guess it can be a good replacement.

Observation:SS510 is 5A/100V diode while SS36 is 3A/60V, this difference i noted, but i just want to see if it will work as replacement. So I desolder bad diode and replace with diode SS36, reassembled and power the charger and it worked again, using it to charge my phone for the past few days.

The last picture shows screen shot of phone being charged with the repaired charger. This is the finished repaired work.

Nice job Imoudu! And you were smart enough to immediately place the replacement PWM 8 pins dip chip on a decent 2.54mm socket!
I myself always prefer the more expensive machine dip sockets for more expensive devices. Because the bus sockets are more reliable and lesser wear out than those springy clamp sockets. In time they do not clip strong enough on the chip legs to hold it in place which causes the chip to move up out of the socket on its own. Which could cause unexpected defects.

Theses chargers are not easy to repair but it is possible to repair . I have repaired some but did not like the experience so I stopped doing that and bought new charger instead. Thanks for sharing and have a blessed day

l did repair this charger because of its quality and its expensive in my country to replace, moreover there are fake of this same charger in market, with different fake smps board inside.Thanks for your comments and have a nice day.
