This Prestige Induction Cooker (hereinafter referred to as ‘IC’ for the sake of brevity) was brought to me with the complaint that it gets on, but no other functions worked and the customer heard a hissing noise from inside. After opening and cleaning the inside thoroughly, when I inspected the board, I saw a black high value capacitor with dry solder and burnt marks on one of its legs.

That was the cause for the noise of arcing. The board looked very rugged and well-designed unlike the many others that I have seen before.

As the cap showed drop in its value, I replaced it along with all the other electrolytic capacitors. Then retouched both the boards very well. The boards were found well coated with a good quality clear lacquer, which prevented corrosion and rusting. I checked all the resistors and components and found these to be ok.

The press-to-on buttons were also found to be working very well when tested in analogue multimeter, with 0 ohm when pressed. I lubricated the fan and checked whether it was freely rotating. After this, I removed the IGBT and applied power. Found that the board was working and it responded to commands, of-course with error beep. Then I replaced the IGBT and put the board back with the coil and fans connected, and just kept the top without fixing it with screws. When I applied power, keeping a vessel with water in it, it heated up showing that the IC was back to work to serve the customer again.

I took it to my kitchen and used it for three days in our house before fixing the back cover with screws and giving delivery to the customer. The job was completed satisfactorily qualifying its addition to the collection bag.

Sharp eye Parasuraman. Not sure I would have caught that upon first inspection.

Looks like this IC cooker was a workhorse in the kitchen and built like a tank.
Its been a whiles since ive seen an old school IGBT and Ive never seen in one a kitchen appliance though I have not had the pleasure of tearing open an IC cooker.

Thanks to you they'll get plenty more years out of it.

Another very well carried out IC repair Parasuraman!
But I do not think I also would have tested the cooker afterwards for a whole 3 days before giving it back to the owner. Mainly because the design of this device as you stated was so much better than the usual cookers made by other manufacturers.

That is a general precaution that I always take in the case of Induction Cookers, as they fail just like that without any apparent reasons. It is to safeguard my credibility. Many thanks for your comments, dear!

Just check the datasheet. In all probability it will be a slave IC of the uController IC for display control and front end input relay. If it is a slave IC, replacement would work. But if it is programmed, mere replacement would not work.
