This Computer SMPS Survived A Third Attempt On Its Life – Story Of INTEX TECHNO ATX SMPS
The above image is an extract form my previous article:
https://jestineyong.com/maintenance-done-in-computer-smps-lasted-for-five-years/
This computer SMPS got serviced first in March, 2017, second in April, 2022 and got readmitted in December, 2024 withthe complaint that it was dead. As cleaning was already done by the IT-Administrator, I focused on what went wrong with this lovely SMPS this time!
On trying to power it on through a series bulb, the bulb lit brightly indicating that something was definitely short inside.
Then I saw that one 330uF/250V cap had developed a tiny tumor on its head. On removing and checking the cap look at what I saw:
The 330uF cap was showing a value of 0.018nF! I don’t think that I have ever seen a cap like this before! I replaced both the caps and continued to check all the components in the primary and found that two numbers of MJE13007B switching transistors were also short.
I replaced them with ME13009. Let us have a look of it before it was fixed:
Then I combed the entire primary and secondary and looked for any more troubles!
Could not find any and so powered the SMPS up with the Checker and fan with an additional load of 12V 25W bulb. It was found working very well:
I allowed it to be on for a sufficient time before closing the covers and transferring it to a bag for carrying it to the hospital, in the meanwhile of which the collection bag did catch the satisfaction to put it in!

The fact that you even kept the data when this smsps unit was fixed before tells us how meticulous your repairs are carried out!

Perhaps I inherited this from my Dad, who was a mechanical engineer and very strict in meticulous way of working. He always said 'There has to be a place for everything and everything should be in its place' often! Very punctual, always very patient and tolerant and the list can go on and on! What I practise is not even a fraction of what he was!
Many thanks for your lovely encouraging comments, dear Albert and May God bless you!

"Then I saw that one 330μF/250V cap had developed a tiny tumor on its head"!...
Oh, doctor Parasuraman!!...
(And I was wrongly believing so far that "a tiny tumor in the head" is translated into "rest in peace")!
Truly now, are you not willing to let this psu to rest in peace some time in the future? Its manufacturer might put a death contract against you!...

I laughed and laughed my head out! Many thanks for your comments, dear Paris! Kindly protect me ensuring that the manufacturer never comes to know of this

Good Job! Sir
Now a days "Tumors" are positively curable because of advance diagnosis & eliminate system technology (Here one you have MS1980).....
