This TV was brought to me with a complaint of white picture by a regular customer. I switched it on and found it to be working very well. He told me that it was intermittent. So, I kept it on and checked for any such problems for two days and could not find any and returned the TV. But it was brought back with the same complaint but with five blinking codes this time.

So, I knew that the TV required opening and further investigation. Five blinking in Sony is an indication of panel related problems.

In order to get access to the T-Con board, we need to remove the mother board and metal plates and yen number of associated fittings. Finally the T-con board was located under the mother board:

One of my techie friends told me to check the voltage of the 1.8V regulator IC. I found it to be missing. But while checking, the TV started working indicating that dry solder was the problem. I retouched the pins with fresh solder upon which the TV worked for some time and again it went into ‘coma!’ Since the exact replacement of the buck IC which converts 3.3V to 1.8V was not available, I used AMS1117-1.8V which is rated for 1A. The IC used in the T-con was rated for 1.5A. The difference was that the IC used in the board was having, pin 1 as input, pin 2 (heat sink) as ground and pin 3 as output.

But AMS1117 has Pin 1 as ground, Pin 2 (heat sink) as output and Pin 3 as input. So, I could not fix it in the same place. So I fixed the replacement IC on a copper clad sheet in order to keep it cool. Then cut the two legs of the IC on the board and wired the replacement IC appropriately. I used red wire for 3.3V input, black wire for ground and orange wire for the 1.8V output. Let us have a look at connected pictures:

I kept the board on a plastic case temporarily as it should not touch the ground by mistake and allowed the TV to run for sufficient time as a test. The IC was not getting hot and I felt confident that it would work fine. Then placed a few pieces of LED backlight sticking tapes at the bottom and covered the top with thick double sided insulation tapes so as to ensure that it does not touch the metal plate of the mother board which would be on top of it. Then stuck this board close to the T-con board and replaced the mother board and associated fittings like before. I tried to take a photo of the board fixed under the mother board and perhaps you could make out something from it:

I allowed the TV to run for several hours and even tested it next day morning before giving delivery.

Mission accomplished with vigor and enthusiasm which resulted in extreme satisfaction that got qualified for entry into the collection bag!

I notice the R45W ic was not soldered off t-con,while the 3 wires from 1117 was soldered to joint R45W on board, why this method,I thought the original ic is defective, which necessitate to use 1117.

I had mentioned that I cut the legs and used the points to solder the 1117. I did not want to remove the IC causing strain to the T-Con Board. I would have removed it, if a replacement was available. Moreover, the 1117 has different pin configs, and should be fit in a place to dissipate heat generation. That's why I used this method! Many thanks for your comments and querry, dear Imoudu!

Not being able to find the components with the exact right pinconfiguration is always a bummer. But it didn't stop you there even from using a max 1A available regulator instead of the original 1.5A one. Assuming you measured the max current that would go through the T-con board to be safe?

No, I did not measure. I just relied on the advice of my techie friends! Many thanks for your expert comments, dear Albert!

    Good Job!Sir,
Arranging exact replacement parts is a challenge nowadays, and you need to have the ability to think out of the box.specially for this type of component where part of the body is internally connected to one of the live pins & body also becomes live.if by mistake it gets touch to chassis while installing it will make job more difficult to repair.
