lg led tv repair

This again was a TV attended to by me partially at my friend’s place. As there was continuous blinking and no display, first I thought it could be due to backlight problem. So, I opened the set and checked the backlight and found that one connector had come out and was glad that I was able to trace the fault quickly. My friend helped in soldering that side directly. But the blinking did not stop on further checking. The LED driver output was found normal and the LED strip also was ok when checked with backlight tester.

So, my friend suspected that the system might have entered into some error mode and tried to crack it by entering into service mode. But nothing worked. It looked like a software corruption. So, he removed the memory IC, loaded it into his programmer, read the program from his Lap Top, copied it to a safe place and reloaded fresh from his collection. Then replaced the memory IC back to the board. Well, the blinking stopped and the TV started working very well once again. Unfortunately, I could not cover the process as I was busy in dismantling another TV. But anyhow, these procedures are quite common and well explained in books published and listed in Jestine Yong’s blog. Here are a few pictures:

I assembled the TV back and allowed it to run as a test.

It worked perfectly well, adding satisfaction to its collection bag!

Indeed too many problems are caused by firmware issues. Or worse by very short chip memory retention times. Which means problems caused by a bad or empty eeprom firmware chip within about 20 year or even less. Luckily most modern tv's, monitors or tv-boards nowadays can easily be read and reprogrammed over the vga or HDMi port with universal programmers like the RT809H programmer. Which saves us the trouble having to desolder the chip, program it in a parallel or serial in-circuit programmer, verify its content and then having to solder it back in.

Programming the eprom chips now a days is getting easier and it is a matter of getting the right software for it and getting a programmer which are found for cheap on the net. Good work and keep up the good work.
