Handheld Metal Detector Repaired

Received Handheld Metal detector in very bad broken condition for repair. On asking the reason to the customer he said some security person banged it on the table because it was not working.

On inspection I found only 9V battery connection desoldered.

Checked 9v battery it is in range.

There is no other damage to the PCB Only Magnetic coil wire are broken from the solder.

Soldered coil wire on PCB & back assembled everything for testing.

On connecting I slide the switch to detector to turn On the device & I can see Green LED is light up.

On operating switch selector, it is showing Vibration Mode but I did not found any vibrator motor inside.

For testing of metal detection I put the screw driver on the coil & Green light turned to Red light with beep, indicated proper functioning.

As I said Plastic Body & screw holes are broken, I used plastic cable tie for fit the handle firmly.

Now device is ready to collect.

Good job on fixing this assumably some sort of knife or gun detecting safety detector.

  It can detect any kind of metal, the device I received for repair is used in commercial offices to prevent people from carrying USB pen drives and other storage devices so that sensitive data of the companies does not go out.

Thank you Yogesh for saving the metal detector from unwarranted bangs, Most hand-held electronic gadgets develop internal circuit disconnections because of falling, or mishandling for that matter. All I could imagine was that, inside the gadget was a magnet and a sensor(s) of sorts. It has never crossed my mind that such an item may be having such an electronics-components-filled board as shown. The board looks overly protected, with zener diodes just in about every other circuit. Evidently, the 9v battery used is rechargable since there is a 'DC IN' socket near the bottom-right corner probably for the purpose of charging. Though you never confirmed if charging was okey. Mobile phones have speakers that serve obediently both as a vibrator and a speaker, suprisingly, often times set to function simultaneously as we all know.

MP,
This device works on the magnetic field created by the coil inside, zeners are used for the safety of the charging circuit,customer is using a normal 9v battery so i have not focused on the charging circuit (customer is not using a rechargeable battery as it takes 16hrs to charge).
Just like a mobile phone, you can select beep mode and vibrator mode by selecting the sliding switch position.
